Bo Ryan eBook Bundle $25.00

Versatile Swing Offense

by Trey Watts

The swing offense has been made popular by Wisconsin Coach Bo Ryan, who has used this offense to lead the Badgers to eight consecutive NCAA tournament appearances. He also won two national championships while coaching at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in Division III.

The offense has been gaining in popularity due to Ryan’s success and the difficulty it gives teams who try to defend the swing offense.

Constant movement and solid discipline make this offense popular with high school coaches as well as those on the college level.

The swing offense is a player driven offense. That means that not all players will fit into swing offense. The basic theory of the swing offense is that every position on the floor is interchangeable. Guards can play on the blocks and forwards and centers should be comfortable shooting from outside the arc.

The swing offense can be a nightmare for some teams as it forces defenders to play outside their comfort zone and cover the whole floor. When a team plays defense for 30 seconds and then gives up a three point basket to the opposing team’s center, it can be a demoralizing experience. Yet that is the whole premise behind the swing offense. The offense moves players around using good cuts and smart passes to cause mismatches and wear down defenses.

The Swing offense is a 4-out patterned offense that has continuity. All five players are interchangeable, and spacing, screening, cutting and good passing are paramount. All five players learn to post up inside. The offense is deliberate, often with multiple passes and places value on each possession with high percentage inside shots, or free-throws.

eBook #2 Wisconsin vs. Maryland Scouting Report

$25.00 for the 2 eBook bundle!

Bo Ryan Wisconsin Badgers vs. Mark Turgeon Maryland Terrapins Scouting Report

This Bo Ryan Wisconsin Badgers vs. Mark Turgeon Maryland Terrapins Scouting Report is a detailed report of the game between the two powerhouses. Maryland was able to able to notch the biggest win of their season while denying Wisconsin a chance to clinch at least a share of the Big Ten Title that day. The Wisconsin Badgers had ranked first in the Big Ten and second in the country in Kenpom’s Adjusted Offensive Efficiency.

The Bo Ryan Wisconsin Badgers play a style of basketball that values efficiency and points per possession – newly popular statistical measures that Bo Ryan has been using for decades – over points and speed. One of Bo Ryan’s favorite saying is “Be good at the things that don’t take talent”. The Bo Ryan Wisconsin Badgers are fundamentally sound, consistent, and have a system that develops talent. They take care of the basket, make the right passes, and do the little things. That is when the big things will come.

The Bo Ryan Wisconsin Badgers run the Swing Offense, but this detailed report will show all the wrinkles that they use in their Set plays, ATO’s, Transition Offense, and Blobs. I have been incredibly impressed since I have run the swing offense for my teams on how they have adapted the principles of it and made it more effective.

The Mark Turgeon Maryland Terrapins side of this scouting report was just as impressive to me. The Mark Turgeon Maryland Terrapins got 28 wins last year and should be primed for a Final Four run next season. I loved how Coach Turgeon runs his set play system.
